The UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, ESG, a SOCOTEC company, has been chosen by the Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC) in a new framework agreement for asbestos consultancy and associated services.

ESG is one of a limited number of suppliers that has been appointed by the SUPC on all six lots of the framework. The SUPC is a membership-based buying organisation for universities and further education colleges across England and Wales that develops and manages framework agreements for procurement of materials and services. The agreement will run until 2019, but has the potential to extend into 2020 and beyond for any signed contracts with individual higher education establishments.

Under the agreement, ESG is available to provide support to the SUPC’s member universities in managing asbestos risk as and when it is required. This can include surveys for asbestos containing materials (ACMs), asbestos strategy development and management, air monitoring, ACM removals project management, as well as any other related services SUPC members may need.

Speaking about the framework agreement, Nick Harper, operations director, Asbestos and Water Treatment, Built Environment, ESG, explained: “Anyone responsible for the maintenance and care of a public building needs to ensure they have comprehensive and up-to-date asbestos management procedures in place. This is crucial in order for building owners to comply with UK and EU legislation, and to ensure that they continue to offer the highest standards of health and safety for the occupants of their premises.

“With our comprehensive asbestos consultancy expertise, as well as our training and laboratory testing offering, we will be able to support the members of the SUPC in achieving these goals, by providing them all with the services they need, whenever they need them.”

Jayne Thorn, category manager at SUPC, added: “Ensuring a safe environment for students, staff and visitors is a top priority for all of our member universities, which is why this framework agreement is so important.

“When bidding, ESG demonstrated exceptional expertise in asbestos management, as well as a flexible and customisable approach to service provision. These attributes make the organisation an ideal partner to support our universities in addressing their individual asbestos management needs. With such guidance, our members can continue to offer the highest standards of safety for everyone using their properties.”
