ESG, the UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, has won a two-year framework agreement to provide asbestos testing and consultancy to construction firm, Skanska UK Plc.

The agreement will see ESG provide Skanska with a range of services from its extensive regional office and laboratory network. As well as asbestos management, refurbishment and demolition surveys, sampling and analysis, the framework includes asbestos-in-soils consultancy, air monitoring and awareness training for Skanska team members.

Through this programme, ESG will be helping Skanska continue to comply with UK health and safety legislation and protect worker wellbeing, while optimising the efficiency of testing and remediation procedures across its UK operations.

ESG already provides a number of services to Skanska, including environmental, water and materials testing for its construction sites.

Matthew Lindstrom, category manager, Skanska UK Plc, said: “We were impressed by ESG’s quality and precision testing, and its dedication to strict safety standards in its own field operations.

“With ESG’s expertise, we can continue to provide the safest possible environment for our team members, suppliers and subcontractors as well as the occupants of our finished developments, in line with the health and safety commitment laid out in our Sustainable Procurement policy.”

Phil Johnson, commercial manager, Built Environment Services, ESG, added: “Asbestos is an issue affecting firms across a range of sectors. Its past use in construction means that there is always a possibility of asbestos-containing materials being present in older buildings, or even in the soil on brownfield land.

“This is why high-quality asbestos management is so crucial – with good systems in place, firms can minimise the health risk to workers and the general public, protecting their long-term wellbeing and helping to maintain a high quality, safe built environment at the same time.”
