Emma Cronin, senior geotechnical engineer, SOCOTEC UK has been awarded this year’s AGS Geotechnical Working Group Award for her valued contributions to this industry-led working group.

She has been working over the past year on several specialist in situ testing projects, including articles for the AGS magazine on pressuremeter and cone penetration testing (CPT). Emma also co-hosted the AGS webinar "A Guide to Pressuremeter Testing: From Site to Design” in November 2022 alongside other industry experts. Currently she is collaborating with several in situ testing companies to produce a client guide on pressuremeter testing, with the aim of providing the wider industry with practical guidance on this specialist topic. This is due to be published in the first half of 2023.

Emma has also been involved in driving sustainability and net zero ideas, and is currently collaborating on an article on consumable sample container alternatives  for the AGS magazine, as well as writing a guide on some upcoming changes to Eurocode 7. She has been instrumental in promoting an engineer to join the AGS Geotechnical Working Group as an Early Career professional.

Emma has received support and encouragement from colleagues at SOCOTEC including Darren Makin (GI Geoenvironmental and Sustainability Team Lead) and Dr Peter Hepton (GI Engineering Manager) along with other experts in the industry from Fugro, Ground and Water, Cambridge Insitu, WSP and Insitu SI.
