    Project Details

In 2005 ITM Monitoring, now SOCOTEC Monitoring UK Ltd, was approached by Halcrow, acting for Welsh Water, to assist in the design of an instrumentation system for Claerwen Dam in the Elan Valley.

After several meetings with the asset engineer and a site visit to the dam, it was agreed that ITM Monitoring would supply and install 6nr tilt sensors and a data logger in the upper gallery of the dam to detect any movements of the dam caused by changes in temperature and water level.  Due the remote location of the site and the non-safety critical nature of the monitoring, data is routinely downloaded from the data logger and manually uploaded into our ARGUS Monitoring software.

The system has now been operational for almost 10 years and continues to provide vital information to the asset engineer.
