Providing Monitoring Works for the Shuttleworth Road Development

    Tue 06/12/2018 - 15:02

Working with Wates Residential, ITM Monitoring, a SOCOTEC company, has begun installation of a comprehensive manual and automated monitoring system for the Shuttleworth Road redevelopment.

The site being developed is in the London Borough of Wandsworth and it runs alongside a 171m stretch of railway embankment.

To monitor the impact of excavation and construction works on this adjacent embankment and section of track, ITM has installed automated tilt sensors and prisms for manual survey along the length of track to monitor for any movements, such as twist. Inclinometers are also being installed in the embankment using a window sample rig and, once the pile line is added, additional inclinometers will be installed to monitor for lateral deflections.

Baseline manual surveys are being carried out for the first three months until October 2018, to collect starting point readings prior to the works beginning. Beyond this, construction monitoring will continue until June 2020, with all data being collected and visualised for the client using ITM’s Online Monitoring Software, Calyx OMS. If the ongoing automated monitoring indicates that movement is occurring, and this movement breaches the set trigger levels, manual surveys will be carried out as required to confirm the readings.

The Shuttleworth Road development will provide 71 affordable homes for local people, as well as new car parking facilities. This development – supported by £3.9million from the Mayor of London – forms part of the council’s wider Winstanley and York Road Estates regeneration programme that is being delivered over the next 10 years by Taylor Wimpey.
