SOCOTEC Celebrates International Women in Engineering Day

    Wed 06/17/2020 - 15:02

International Women in Engineering Day is taking place on Tuesday 23 June, bringing together female engineers across the globe to celebrate and recognise their achievements.

Coordinated by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), the global awareness campaign is designed to raise the profile of women in the engineering sector and other related industries, highlighting the range of career opportunities available to them. This year’s campaign coincides with the UK reaching its target of employing one million women within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mechanics (STEM) sector by 2020, with up-to-date figures based on the latest research by Women into Science and Engineering (WISE).

First established in 2014, this year’s campaign is encouraging organisations to take part in the event virtually/at home in line with current COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. The theme for 2020 is #ShapeTheWorld, which focuses on how female engineers contribute to making the planet a safer, more innovative place.

As an equal opportunities employer, SOCOTEC is a proud supporter of International Women in Engineering Day, basing the employability of its members of staff on their abilities, determination and attributes alone. Thanks to its commitment to internal training, development, promotion and recognition, SOCOTEC’s female engineers have accomplished plenty during their time with the business, working across a broad range of high profile projects, developing an induction programme for Geology undergraduates and delivering educational talks to schools and professional bodies, to name a few.
