    Tue 05/22/2018 - 13:42

SOCOTEC, the UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, has supported a primary school in South Wales, with a recent project to rejuvenate its outside space.

Hengoed Primary School, Caerphilly, embarked on an ambitious project to revamp its woodland and outdoor play area, for the benefit of its 164 pupils.

To support the school, a willing team of volunteers from SOCOTEC’s Bridgend office, located between Swansea and Cardiff, helped the school to complete its makeover including; painting planters, laying bark and wood chippings, painting play areas and installing decking.

David Birkin, regional manager, SOCOTEC asbestos explains:

“At SOCOTEC it is important for us to support our local communities, Hengoed Primary School wanted to breathe new life into their play area and we were more than happy to help. Between us the team put in about 50 hours work with fantastic results. Seeing the children’s faces when it was finished made all the hard work worthwhile.”

Marian Thomas, headteacher from Hengoed Primary School said: “I am humbled that people like David and his team would spare time and money and make such an effort to support us in our aim to provide the best resource that we can for our pupils.  The children have been so excited at the newly improved areas, they are enjoying playing and learning in them.”

Located between Swansea and Cardiff, close to the M4 corridor, SOCOTEC’s Bridgend site originally opened in 2014 and delivers a full suite of asbestos consultancy and project management services, including surveying, air monitoring, clearance inspections and sample analysis.

With 25 staff now working out of Bridgend, the team managed by David Birkin is one of the largest in South Wales, having grown by 31% since January 2017.
