    Wed 09/12/2018 - 16:07

SOCOTEC, the UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, is proud to be sponsoring the BGA’s international conference on Engineering in Chalk.

Organised by the British Geotechnical Association (BGA) with support from the Engineering Group of the Geological Society (EGGS), the two day conference on Engineering in Chalk provides an opportunity for industry experts to share research, knowledge and experiences in the nature and engineering behaviour of chalk.

As well as keynote lectures on engineering in Chalk, the conference will also be delivering parallel sessions on topics in earthworks, geological hazards, foundations & piling, site investigation, offshore engineering as well as in-situ and laboratory testing.

SOCOTEC - as a leading geotechnical services provider - offers a diverse range of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigation capabilities. From deep boring, wireline drilling and dynamic sampling to specialist in situ testing, in-house laboratories and engineering consultancy, SOCOTEC’s service offering covers the whole project lifecycle, through design, construction and the built stages. With extensive ground investigation experience in chalk formations across the UK, SOCOTEC has the expertise to carry out high quality coring and detailed logging of the material, together with the equipment and experience to undertake specialist in situ testing using pressuremeters, CPT and instrumented permeability tests.

Philip Ball, group technical director, SOCOTEC, commented:

“We are proud to be Bronze Sponsors of this first chalk conference in almost 30 years, supporting the BGA’s aim of delivering an update to the geotechnical community on the particular challenges of engineering in chalk. To continue to be at the forefront of ground investigation, it is essential we remain conversant with changes and developments in field techniques, geological understanding and methods of data management, leading these where we can.

“At SOCOTEC, we fully understand that any exploratory work must be designed to ensure a suitably focused ground investigation is carried out – which means early collaboration between all parties in proposing works that are relevant to the project, and being flexible to adjust these in response to the actual circumstances encountered. Attending and sponsoring technical events, like the Engineering in Chalk Conference, ensures that we remain up-to-date with changes and advances in ground investigation developments, so that we can continue to deliver high quality, reliable and cost-effective ground investigations.”
