SOCOTEC, the UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, is bringing the annual Railway Environmental Forum to both London and Edinburgh for another year.
The Railway Environmental Forum has been offering specialist technical support to key railway contacts for over 20 years. For the 2018 event, rail delegates have been invited to attend a day of technical discussions focussed on overcoming hazards that are found within the rail sector.
Taking place in both Edinburgh and London, SOCOTEC’s industry experts will be delivering guidance on the hazards and risks associated with paints and paint strippers, including isocyanates and dichloromethane, as well as biohazards on the tracks. Plus, with the recent update to the HSE’s document on Workplace Exposure Limits, EH40/2005, SOCOTEC will be providing delegates with information on the key changes to monitoring NO and NO2 emissions, particularly important when monitoring diesel engine exhaust emission (DEEE) exposure in the rail and transportation industries.
In addition, the Forum will touch upon other key hazards that can be found in any environment; the presence of asbestos, Legionella risk as well as the legalities behind compliant discharge of effluent.
By holding such an event, SOCOTEC welcomes discussions in an open environment, encouraging the sharing of knowledge with people who need it, when they need it. Those in attendance are typically facilities managers, safety managers and environmental standards managers.
Noelyn Allen, business development director, Environment & Safety, SOCOTEC, commented:
“At SOCOTEC, we deal with members working on the railway every day - but setting aside a day to share our knowledge and expertise with key members of the rail industry is really important to supporting them in delivering best practice in their roles.
“Not only do we support in driving efficiency and supporting cost savings, the Forum allows us the chance to discuss processes, procedures and legislation changes with those at the heart of rail. Our delegates have previously fed back that the Forum is a great way to discuss their rail depots with those that really know what they’re doing – which is why we keep hosting the Forum, year on year.”
The annual forum is one of the leading industry events for environment, health & safety and compliance in the rail sector. With over 100 years of experience in the rail industry, SOCOTEC provides advice in a wide range of fields and ensures clients are compliant with legislation.
The Edinburgh event will be held on 8 November 2018 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh, with the London event taking place the following week on 15 November 2018 at the iconic St Pancras Hotel.
