    Summer Environmental Conference Success!

    Mon 24/06/2024 - 12:17

This year's Summer Environmental Conference at our head office was an incredible success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our attendees and the insightful contributions of our expert speakers.

The morning session delved into critical environmental issues, starting with Paul Nathanail from Land Quality Management discussing the risk-based management of PFAS contamination. This was followed by Dr. Duncan Scott of VertaseFLI presenting a fascinating case study on managing environmental risks posed by landfill remediation.

Simon Joynes from ASP Environmental enlightened us on handling fuel spills, emphasizing the importance of accepting and addressing these issues promptly. After a brief networking break, Neil Hopkins of Englobe UK shared innovative solutions for tar and NAPL remediation, and Jon Axisa from Seed Environmental examined the impact of climate change on fuel spills. Tom Middleton and George Roberts from Rhodar then presented their phased approach to urban regeneration, culminating with Paul Ankrett from Adler & Allan discussing the challenges posed by PFAS.

Post-lunch, our first expert panel session brought together thought leaders to discuss PFAS, remediation, and related topics. The discussion was lively and informative, setting the stage for a series of compelling presentations.

Dr. Jon Burton of Oracle Environmental and our own Paul Walker analyzed persistent organic pollutants in plastic pellets recovered from UK shorelines. Karen Jackson from the Canal & River Trust spoke about identifying TPH and PAH sources in canal and river sediments, and Charles Hughes tackled the issue of invasive plants on our waterways.

The second expert panel session provided industry updates, featuring insights from Mark Orr of the UK and Ireland Spill Association and other prominent experts. The day concluded with Sebastian Mynott from Applied Genomics presenting on environmental DNA-based techniques for monitoring and remediation, followed by awards and closing remarks.

The event wrapped up with laboratory tours, giving attendees a closer look at our cutting-edge facilities and the deep research involved in our environmental testing.

We extend our thanks to all our attendees and speakers for making this conference a vibrant and valuable experience. Your participation and engagement are what made this event truly special. We look forward to welcoming you to future events and continuing our collaborative journey towards a more sustainable and environmentally secure future.
