What do Safety, Health, Environment and Quality roles include?
By joining SOCOTEC's Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) teams as an advisor or safety consultant, you will be passionate about helping colleagues and clients to meet the required standards for health, safety, environmental and quality on site/in the workplace.
You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance, developing and maintaining best practices in the workplace to ensure that these are kept to the highest standards at all times.
Examples of duties you could undertake as part of your role include:
- Ensuring all health and safety, environmental and quality standards are met
- Investigating accidents and writing reports
- Completing risk assessments and site inspections
- Advising on training such as IOSH and NEBOSH qualifications
- Suggesting improvements to working processes
- Developing and reviewing safety policies and procedures.
Work with SOCOTEC to build trust in a sustainable world
There are several routes to take to work in SHEQ, including university, college, an apprenticeship or direct employment, depending on which best suits your requirements. The majority of these routes will require you to have a NEBOSH (National General Certificate) in Occupational Health and Safety or NEBOSH (National General Certificate) in Health and Safety. In order to work on construction sites, you may also need to possess a CSCS card.
If you are coming in at a junior level, you should ideally have a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn, while more senior SHEQ advisors are expected to have the necessary level of technical knowledge and competence to perform their role.
